• Staircasing Whilst Newly Purchasing A Shared Ownership Property

By Guest on 08th Aug 2021

    Good afternoon,

I am hoping to purchase a Shared Ownership property [house] for a larger percentage share than was originally advertised for sale. I have been told by the Housing Association responsible that this is possible, but that the way it would work is that the Seller would staircase whilst selling to me, and that I must accept to cover their staircasing costs.
I have received no indication of the sum of the costs I would be accepting to pay, although can understand that those should fall to me in any event.

As the staircasing is happening through the Seller's solicitors and I would have my own separate Buyer's solicitor, am I likely to be paying duplicated fees for searches etc which both sides will be running, is it acceptable for me to approach the Seller's solicitor to find out what I would be charged by them, and is this the correct way this scenario should be playing out in general?

Many thanks for you help and time,

Your solicitor should simply ask what these are.
