• Solicitor Processing My Purchase As A Leasehold Or Freehold?

By Guest on 13th Nov 2018

    Hi,

I am purchasing a house which is currently leasehold, but is “freehold on completion” as the vendors are using the money from the sale to purchase the freehold. My question is based around whether my solicitor should be processing my conveyancing and fees as a leasehold, or a freehold purchase. I have been informed as the freehold will be purchased on the same day (completion) as the purchase of the house, the house we are purchasing is a freehold, so our solicitor should process this as a freehold. My solicitor is saying the opposite, and that the house will be processed from their end as a leasehold purchase as that’s what the house is at the moment, not taking into account that the house purchase and freehold purchase are part of the same transaction. Some advice please :) thanks

Is this in terms of fees? It would be a leasehold purchase as they are required to review the leasehold element as well as the freehold. They can't just ignore the leasehold element. Or use a firm like Notary Express which does not charge extra for leasehold properties.
