    When purchasing from executors is there anything other than receipt of a grant of probate that I need

    Assuming the deceased who is represented by the executor is the sole registered proprietor then the grant of probate (or grant of letters of administration if the deceased died "intestate" (without leaving a will)) is all you need. If however there is another person named on the deeds who is also deceased you will need their death certificate.
