• How Long Must A Lawyer Keep A Completion Statement?

By Guest on 14th Dec 2018

Is there a legal requirement for the length of time that a lawyer must keep a completion statement? I'm trying to track down one which seems to have 'gone missing' despite the sale being less than 5 years ago.

If this was a purchase and you had a mortgage the council of mortgage lenders states a minimum of 6 years to retain the file which therefore should contain the completion statement. Aside from this there is no set period as such though most lawyers would keep the file for this kind of time if not longer probably in off site storage due to the limitation periods by which they could be sued.
