I have paid off my mortgage in full (2 weeks ago) and was told by the bank to obtain my title deeds from the Land Registry. I received them today and have a question, please. I see I am mentioned in the Title absolute section dated 2002, but that was when I still had a mortgage. The charges register mentions my mortgage when I purchased the property in 2002, but I cannot see where it records me having paid off the mortgage in full and now owning the property outright. How can I tell that the Title Deeds now state my sole ownership? Have I obtained them too soon for them to be updated with a completed mortgage, or am I just misunderstanding the wording? I would have thought the register would have recorded the date I paid off the mortgage, as it mentions the 2002 date when I bought the property with the mortgage.

Lenders can take about a month to remove their charge from the register (though many are quicker). I would suggest checking the register again in a month and then take it up with the bank if their charge is still on there.

Thanks. I will leave it a month. Trouble is I have already paid a fee for a copy of the deeds. I suppose I will have to repeat the payment to access it again?
