• How To Remove Ground Rent From Deeds Of House

By Guest on 22nd Apr 2019

For 15 years I paid ground rent on my property, a small payment requested annually by letter every year. But for the last 20 yrs I have not been asked for payment. How can I get this ground rent removed from Land Registry?

Ask the landlord if you still have contact (but this is likely to trigger them to request ongoing payments).

Otherwise you can apply to the Lands Tribunal (but this will also require attempts to contact the landlord) which can cost about £3000-£5000 and likely take 4-6 months. There is no guarantee they would remove it. We would advise using a conveyancer for this.

Or you could just leave it and ignore it.

Thanks for advice. I have to clarify that I own the house. I am getting older and want to ‘put my affairs in order’ otherwise I would let sleeping dogs lie.
