• Old Terrace House Purchase - Leasehold Or Freehold Contract Required?

By Guest on 15th Aug 2015

    Afternoon all,

I've been given the offer to purchase a a mid-terraced house from a family member. It's a simple transaction (ie no mortgage required, I know the house etc etc) so I'm looking at doing the conveyancing. I've looked at the deeds today which state the property is leasehold as the landowner leased the land to the builder to build the row of terraces in 1907. There is a letter in the deeds that shows that a final payment of the peppercorn rent was paid and there is no further payment to be paid.

My question is - would I need a "Leasehold Contract" or "Freehold Contract" from this website? I'm pretty sure it would be Leasehold and the contract would state that no rent is due etc etc but thought I'd ask the question from the more experienced of you.

    Thanks,

    Matt.

Thank you for your question. You would need a leasehold contract. The contract between the buyer and seller would not make any mention of the rent payable on the lease. Hope this helps but let us know if you have anymore questions.
