• I'm In A Rush Should I Do My Own Conveyancing?

By Guest on 13th Aug 2015

    Hi,

I have recently had a lot of trouble from my solicitors with getting things done, it has taken me two weeks just to get in touch with her and now everyone else's property is completing this month so naturally I'm under pressure from the estate agent I need a completion date of the 28th of August and she has already been instructed for 4 weeks and has just now said that the draft contracts are going to title review. I have not requested any searches, it is a cash purchase of a new build and there is no chain and as I have a lot of time right now, I wondered would it just be faster to do my own conveyancing to get it completed by the 28th of this month?

    Many thanks,

    Julia Main

Even doing the conveyancing yourself you have a very tight deadline. A transaction from start to finish will typically take around 4 to 6 weeks. It is true that this is partly because your conveyancer will not always be able to deal with everything the moment that it arrives on his desk but you do have to consider that there are other parties which you cannot control but whom you are relying on to ensure a swift process. My advice would be to settle for a more realistic deadline of perhaps the end of September and to discuss the delays with your conveyancer and to ask to speak to somebody more senior if you think it's necessary
