• Transfer Of Title Deed

By Guest on 17th Mar 2017

I am separated from my wife and the sale of our property in York is due to complete by the end of next month. However, we also have a rental property which was my original home but which I put my wife's name on 3 years ago. Both myself and my wife are in agreement to take her name off the title deeds of the rental property. And whilst there is currently a mortgage on the property, I intend to pay this off and move back into the property when I receive the proceeds from the sale of the York home. At the same time my wife will be using her half of the proceeds to purchase another property. Would there be any negative implications if I were to pay off the mortgage of my original home (the rental property) before carrying out the transfer of deed. The reason I ask, is that my solicitor has quoted me £501 to do the transfer but I can do it myself if the property does not have a mortgage. It seems futile paying for a solicitor when I intend to settle the mortgage straight afterwards.
