• Want To Buy Freehold But Have Altered House Without Leaseholders Permission.

By Guest on 07th Oct 2020

Like other commenters, we bought a leasehold house. Semi with large garden. We have made changes to it with a very small extension to replace basic lean too and also painted the exterior and added double glazing and sky lights. However, I know that we should have gained permission from the leaseholder at every step, but didn’t. My husband doesn’t think it’s an issue. There are restrictive covenants on the house regarding these matters and I am worried about it. I would love to buy the lease but this will probably involve the leaseholder needing to know about all the changes we have done. I know we will have to pay in some way, but should we get an Indemnity policy?? Or is this only for if we weren’t the ones to do the work? Thanks.
