• Purchase Of Freehold

By Guest on 10th Jul 2017

I own a Leasehold house to which I am considering adding a conservatory, but, according to a covenant in the Lease Deeds I must seek permission in writing to proceed with this. As a result, I have requested a quote from the Freeholder on an application to purchase the Freehold. They have responded with what I believe is a reasonable sum. However, there are conditions on the reverse of the application form for the Freehold Purchase, which basically state that if the Transferee wishes to extend or add to the building, they must obtain written consent from the Transferor. This seems iniquitous, and is it legal? If this type of covenant can still be enforced on the property is there any point in purchasing the Freehold? My rent is nominal £10 p.a. and there are 936 years remaining on the lease. Any guidance very much appreciated. Regards.
