• Paying Stampduty Twice,same Property

By Guest on 02nd Dec 2018

If a person has bought a house, say for £300,000,paying £5000 SDLT on purchase for a leasehold property. Then, after 2 years goes through the freehold purchase process of said property's leasehold costing £3000 in related fees.Let us say the property was still valued at £300,000 at that time.Is that person still liable to pay another £5000 in SDLT,for the same property when re-registering with the land registry?

A payment under £40,000 does not need to be notified to HMRC, so if you purchase at £3000 you do not need to file an SDLT return.
