    Can a person acting as lasting power of attorney become a joint tenant and pay half towards the mortgage.

    It would depend on the terms of the Lasting Power of Attorney

    You should contact the Office of the Public Guardian if the donor of the power of attorney no longer has mental capacity. You can get into trouble if it appears to the Court of Protection that you have not acted in the donor's best interests, even if you thought you were not doing anything wrong.
