my neighbour has said i cannot park my transit van on the road by my house. It does not obsturct any paths or access to any property or land. I have a covenant on my property stating you can not park such vehicles on estate communal areas on on my property.

I would need to see the deeds in full to give you a definitive answer, but it is not uncommon to see a covenant stating that no commercial vehicles can be parked on the estate or restricting the size of any vehicles parked on the estate. If there is such a covenant then your neighbour may be correct.
