YOUR CONVEYANCING QUESTIONS ANSWERED
The number one site for Free Conveyancing Advice.

Matters covered on this page:
Why are some links better than others?
Welcome to free conveyancing advice. We are are looking to add good quality, relevant, reciprocal links to our site. We do not take part in link exchange programs as we have discovered that the vast majority of sites offered bear little or no relevance to our own and consequently have no impact on our ranking. Instead, we prefer to have a smaller number of relevant links.
Why have links?
Search engines such as Google attach more importance to sites that have a lot of other sites pointing (linking) to them and so will place them higher in rtheir rankings, which in turn of course leads to more traffic.
Why are some links better than others?
As soon as somebody realised that more links meant higher rankings, the first thing they did of course was to encourage as many people as possible to link to them regardless of whether they had any reason other than fooling the search engines for doing so. The search engines soon noticed this abuse and refined their algorithms so that only links that were logical would be taken into consideration. For example if a site about football was pointed to by 1,000 sites about trainspotting it would not rank as highly as another football site pointed to by 100 sports related sites. In other words, for links to be worth having, the sites that contain them have to be relevant to your site, such that a person viewing the site containing the link t yours might genuinely wany to visit a site such as yours.
At Free Conveyancing Advice we seek only to exchange links with sites that are relevant to our own.
No Dedicated Links Pages
Many sites will have a seperate page which contains all their links and no other content. We do not, for two reasons. First, every webpage has a finite amount of "page rank" which it can pass to other pages through links, so the more links appear on the page, the less page rank is passed on to each. We should add that the more highly ranked a page is the more page rank it can pass on, therefore a highly ranked page can have a lot of links and still potentially be effective. The second reason is that we have found that often a site's links page, if it contains no useful content, will either be very low ranked or may even not be listed at all. A link on a page that is not listed has no value whatsoever.
At Free Conveyancing Advice we place links on the page to which they are most relevant and where possible, within the actual text of the page (which the experts say is the most evective form of link. We will consider linking to sites that use links pages subject to checking value of them.
