• When To Use A Solicitor?

By Guest on 11th Mar 2017

    Hello,
I will be looking to split/transfer land with my father. He has a property with space on the side which i'm looking to build on. I have been advised to obtain legal advice by my architect to check if we can even build on land before proceeding with design and planning. My understanding was to get a Solicitor involved AFTER I obtained planning permission on the land. I would then use a solicitor to help with the transfer of land into my name. Should I use a Solicitor from the beginning instead to find any issues with the land? if so, what "service" should I be requesting?
    Many thanks!

You should check whether there are any covenants affecting the land that prevent development. A solicitor can advise you on this. You could also consider purchasing our "Developer Pack". You can buy this at http://land-registry-documents.co.uk/order-documents
