• Title Deed Transfer

By Guest on 31st Jul 2019

    Hi,
I have a buy to let property and mortgage.
I purchased a residential property with my ex partner, It was purchased in his name, but with me on the mortgage. I have made all mortgage payments and associated costs for the house. I have also live in the property, he never moved in. We split a few years ago now and have agreed the figure of around £20K that he is owed from costs between us and then we can legally get the house transferred slely into my name and I can then remortgage.
I have already paid stamp duty with him, but wanted to see where I stand if the house is transferred solely to my name and what I would have to pay for this?
    Thank you

You would need his consent (or a court order) to transfer it into your individual name.

You would need to pay legal costs, the Land Registry application cost, and possibly SDLT depending on the mortgage amount and your personal circumstances.

The first step would be to see if the lender and ex-partner consent to the transfer.
