• Adding Spouse To Title Deeds Of Family Home

By Guest on 04th Dec 2017

My husband and I purchased our family home in 2000 but as my husband's mortgage could be ported over, to make it easier, we kept the mortgage just in his name and therefore title deeds are in his sole name also. We have now just paid off our mortgage and we thought we should add my name to the title deeds but I've just been informed I'd have to pay stamp duty on a home I have contributed to and lived in for the last 17 years. Is this correct?!

Stamp Duty is only payable if you have paid for your share which is not the case . All you are doing is transferring equity and benefecial ownership without any mortage outstanding. My understanding is that you will not have to pay any stamp duty
