a few years ago I bought a house, at the time the garage plot was included in the transfer however wasn't transferred to me by some sort of error. I have now been in contact with the owners who will transfer the land to us. as there will be no payment we don't need to pay a stamp duty fee. however will my sols still need to submit an sdlt form as they have charged us for it on the completion statement

A stamp duty land tax return only need be submitted when the consideration paid for the transaction is £40,000 or more. Consideration can either be money or money's worth, i.e. the assumption of debt or an exchange of property. I would challenge your solicitor as the charge may be a clerical error
