• Insurance For A Leasehold Property

By Guest on 24th May 2016

We are buying a property and it is freehold. The garage attached is leasehold and will be leased by us. The garage is owned under a leaseholder interest as it is part of next doors structure. Under the terms of the lease, the landlord insures. We want indemnity insurance to cover the garage.

What is it specifically that you want indemnity insurance for? Indemnity insurance exists to cover loss associated with legal risks, such as defects in the legal title etc. What is it that you are concerned about? If it is merely that you want to be certain that the garage remains insured you are entitled to see a copy of the freehold owner's insurance each time it is renewed and you can ask (though depending on what the lease says you may not be able to insist) that your interest is noted on the policy
