Firstly it depends on what powers the power of attorney gives you. Is it a general power of attorney or leave it limited to specific task? If it is a general power is it less than 12 months old? Secondly do you think your ex would be happy for you to sign documents under the power of attorney? To use the power you have to act in the best interest of the donor of the power and if you do not you are committing a criminal offence. If you are in any doubt do not use the power of attorney and instead speak to a solicitor about your options
